Customise your iPhone with Widgets

Want to personalise your iPhone so you can see helpful information from your home or lock screen?

At the moment, there are widgets to display your photo albums, breaking news stories, upcoming calendar events and more. But you can also create, add, and edit widgets on your iPhone to customise your experience. Here’s how:

Add Widgets

  • Tap and hold any empty area on your home screen until your apps jiggle. Then tap the PLUS sign in the top-left corner of your screen.
  • Select a widget, choose a size, and tap ADD WIDGET. Then tap DONE.
  • Drag a widget to a new location on your home screen by tapping and holding it and selecting EDIT HOME SCREEN. Or, drag a widget to the left side of your screen to add it to your Today View, so you can access it from your lock screen.

Customise Your Widgets

  • Tap and hold the widget you want to change. Select EDIT WIDGET.
  • Tap the information you want to change. Some widgets will only allow you to customise one or two settings.

Stack Widgets

  • To save space on your home screen, stack widgets by tapping and holding a widget and selecting EDIT HOME SCREEN.
  • Drag a widget on top of another of the same size.
  • Tap DONE in the top right-hand corner. You can add up to 10 widgets to one stack.

Edit Your Widget Stack

  • Tap and hold a stack and tap EDIT STACK.
  • Drag the widgets to reorder them or remove a widget by tapping the minus sign in the top-left corner.
  • If you enable Smart Rotation, your iPhone will automatically rotate widgets in your stack to show you the most relevant ones based on your activity, time, and location.

Create Custom Widgets

  • Download the Widgetsmith app.
  • Open the app, select the type of widget you want to create (there are calendars, step counters and more free options.)
  • Tap the tab strip at the bottom of your screen to customise colour, font, background image, and more.
  • Make a note of the number associated with your widget, then tap the BACK button in the top left corner of your screen. Tap SAVE.
  • Add a Widgetsmith widget to your home screen by tapping and holding an empty space on your home screen. Once the apps jiggle, tap the plus sign in the top-left corner of your screen. Scroll down and select Widgetsmith. Finally, select the widget you created and tap ADD WIDGET.
