Leading tech research and advisory company CCS Insight’s recent survey results in December showed that 40% of mobile phone users opted for a phone-free contract, beating the traditional phone contract users’ vote at 35% for the very first time.
They have also predicted that these SIM-only contracts will grow over time as users plan to stay on these devices for 2+ years, saving money by choosing to continue with their mobile device on a new phone plan.
One of the major benefits of a SIM-only contract is the cost, as a SIM-only plan can be far cheaper.
You’ll only be paying for what you use in calls, texts, and data per month rather than a set cost spread out, which may not work with your long-term financial plans.
The cost-of-living crisis has had a huge impact on SIM-only deals, as people are being more thoughtful with their finances and monthly budgets to better manage the cost of rising inflation.
Catherine Hiley, mobile expert at Uswitch, estimates that by choosing SIM-only, users could save up to £321 a year.
With SIM-only deals now the most popular type of mobile plan, why pay more when you can save for things that matter? At Uplands, not only do we provide SIM-only plans for customers, but if you’re happy with your phone, you can even keep your number if you’re joining us from another network!
When asked how people plan to interact with their mobile operators during their phone plan contact, CCS Insight director of consumer and connectivity, Kester Mann, noted that three of the top four methods were digital, while visiting in-store ranked fifth. People are looking for time-effective ways to get their devices set up, and digital seems to be the way forward.
Purchasing new phones and organising your data into a new plan is time-consuming, and not everyone has the flexibility to be able to deal with these switchovers and long wait times in-store. No one wants to be disconnected from their friends and family, and SIM-only is the solution to this.
Buying refurbished and opting for SIM-only has become the most sustainable, cost-effective way to reduce monthly digital spendings, and it’s clear this is the way forward for a lot of people.
By choosing to repair your phone vs. buying new, and avoiding this hassle of a phone switchover, SIM-only eliminates the difficult, stressful parts of getting your new phone plan sorted.
Our sister-company, The People’s Operator, delivers high quality refurbished phones tested by professionals with 12-month repair or replacement warranties, so you know you’re getting a quality device.
